Hawaiian Breeze

Another UFO - now finished! This one was only started about a year ago. :) It's a simple diamond pattern made in very cool, muted colors for my friend, Meghan. Once again, I was practicing my machine quilting skills with a basic stitch in the ditch. This one was an easy one to finish up since (once I pulled it out of the closet) I realized it only needed the binding.

Knuckles & Vixen

I'm continuing my quest to finish projects! I started this wallhanging back in 2001/2002. The intention was to practice basic skills like piecing, applique, and borders. Of course I had to add pictures of my sweet little bunnies on there. Knuckles & Vixen were my first bunnies. As you can tell I did the quilting on my machine. I'm slowly improving, but it's really not the most attractive quilting I've seen. I guess I better keep practicing!

Portable Cutting Board

This was a very fun and quick project taught to our quilt group by Jean on Tuesday. It's a portable cutting board - the outside is padded with batting, so it can be used as a mat for ironing. The inside is a cutting mat on one side and a felt board for pieces in process on the other. I think it took us maybe an hour and a half to make. Very fun project! It will be so much easier carrying this to classes or sew nights rather than lugging around a big cutting mat.

An Abundance of Bunnies

This quilt was the first challenge in my quilt group. I set the rules (10" bunny blocks) and each month a member of my group created a block for me. This challenge ran for 9 months. I added the borders and put the blocks together. I then quilted it on my own small machine. I ended up just outlining the borders to avoid messing up any of the amazing bunny blocks. Now I just need to find time to create a sleeve and get it put up on my wall.

Use Caution When Waking

And here's the quilt for my Grandpa. I found this pattern in a quilting magazine and I think it works well with the dark prints. The quilting here was also done by karen and it's a very loose/abstract leaf/feather pattern in a medium brown thread. Yes, that's Pinocchio up in the corner. The bunny who automatically knows when there's either a camera or a quilt around and has to be right in the middle of both. :)

Grandma's Garden

As promised, here's another one of my recent creations. This one is a Christmas present for my Grandma. I used 8" curved templates that I got from Colorado Backporch. It was quite the practice in curved piecing, but really wasn't that difficult. The quilting was done by Karen Niemi and she did a lovely flower and leaf design in a pink and green varigated thread that I think works really well here.

My Very First Post!

I'm finally entering the blogging universe. When my friend, Stephanie recently asked me what quilts I had been working on - I thought of actually posting my quilting online. I don't know who will be interested, but it'll be nice to actually keep a log of my work. I did quite a bit this past year, so there will be some catching up to do, but here are two baby quilts to start. These were made for the new babies of two of my coworkers. We had everyone sign and decorate the quilts during the baby shower.

They were fun, fast sews and everyone really liked getting to contribute to them. Of course, it was funny watching some people who were terrified of messing it up. I think some of us develop a block in our brain that tells us we can't venture out into the creative for fear that it won't be perfect.
